WhatsApp group chats are getting these new tools
WhatsApp is starting 2026 with its first major feature release which caters to the Group chats and how members are visible on the messaging app. Groups have become a critical part of the platform, not only because you can have hundreds of them working in cohesion but also having the ability to start a meeting and add them seamlessly.
And now WhatsApp is bringing more tools to make group chats better and even more popular among users.
WhatsApp Group Chat Features: What You Get
One of the first new features for group chats is member tags. WhatsApp claims this has been a highly requested feature which lets you identify other members in the group. The platform is also bringing custom text stickers and early event reminders for these users and here’s how they can help millions.
Member tags: WhatsApp is letting you give people in the group names or tags by which everyone can recognise them. “Now you can give yourself a tag that tells the group what your role is, and can be customized for each group you’re in. The platform says you can be “Anna’s Dad” in one group, and “Goalkeeper” in another. It will be available in the coming months.
Text stickers: Stickers are going texty with the new update which lets you convert any word into a stick by typing it into the Sticker search tab. That’s not all, you can even create new stickers and add them to the pack for easy use.
Event reminders: And finally, group chat users creating and sending an event invite in the group can set up custom early reminders so that nobody forgets joining in for the call/meeting on WhatsApp.
Most of these features will be coming to Android and iOS users initially with the web version tipped to get it at a later date.
WhatsApp users were recently warned about the New Year 2026 greetings scam by police authorities in India. What might look like basic New year wishes could have handed over the control of your phone to the hacker.
