iPhone Fold launch in 2026 is going to be a big deal for Apple among other products from the company which could be getting these changes.
iPhone Fold launch could force Apple to bring this feature
Apple has been flirting with the idea of bringing Touch ID back to the iPhones (still available on the iPad). And we could see it happen as early as 2026 when the company unveils its first foldable iPhone in the market. Face ID has become the go-to security feature for iPhones since its release with the iPhone X model.
But going for a new form factor could prompt the brand to re-introduce the fingerprint-based biometric feature back to the device. This year is going to be really important for Apple, not just because of the AI push but the broader plans for its devices lineup.
Touch ID Comeback, But Why Only Fold?
Face ID has been a useful feature and one that is much better on iPhones than any Android device. So, why is Apple looking to ditch the popular and secure option and bring another ID version, this is linked to the displays that you have on the foldables and we have seen this quite often with foldables from both Samsung and Google.
The panel inside these devices is not able to support the in-display security feature, so you get the Touch ID sensor built into the power button.
We imagined Apple will be the first to break this trend with its own iPhone Fold but looks like that will have to wait a little longer. The power button on a foldable is the most accessible position for the security feature, and because you have a foldable panel, fitting the sensor has proven to be unsuccessful.
Apple could copy Google to make one of its upcoming products. Yes, you are reading right. The iconic brand making iPhones is going to be inspired by Google’s first foldable in the market, for its own first iPhone Fold model in 2026.
This tip has come via a recent leaked video where you can see the design renders for the rumoured iPhone foldable, which seemingly looks a lot like the Pixel Fold model that Google introduced a few years back. The company is tipped to make a book-style foldable, something that Google and Microsoft used for their Pixel and Surface Book models.
