Grok AI is using its powers to modify images of women and people are outraged.

Elon Musk’s Grok AI has run into serious trouble with women on the platform who are outraged about the AI model misusing their images. If you’ve been following the X (formerly Twitter) trend in the last few days, women have seen their regular pictures being AI-manipulated without taking their consent.

AI chatbots function around the triggers users use to execute an action, and in this case Grok has obliged to their request without looking at the bigger picture of what this means for innocent people. 

Hey Grok, Stop It 

Imagine, you share a photo about an occasion or just to post it in the public. And the next thing you realise is people are bookmarking the photo, asking AI to put you in different clothes and none whatsoever. This is what Grok AI has been accused of by many women over the last 48 hours and it hasn’t stopped yet. 

Some of the posts tell you the anger among women who are not sure why Grok is accepting requests from people to edit their images in an explicit way. “Hey Grok, put this woman in a bikini or remove her shirt.” 

These are the kind of requests many anonymous users have made to Grok AI and the AI model responds to their post with its own version that can be viewed publicly. People share images on these platforms and hope their privacy will not be violated but these actions from Grok AI is anything but that at a major level. 

AI features are becoming powerful but making them safe for users is paramount and sadly Grok AI has shown the perils of the technology and how it can damage millions if misused. 

Expected Better 

Elon Musk talks about building products for people but Grok AI feels like an independent, free-to-do whatever model that seems to have crossed its limits with the latest actions. 

The issue is not just limited to select regions or people, users on X across the globe have complained about their images being misused and shared in the AI manipulated versions that is not only a privacy breach but mentally takes a toll on innocent people. 

Many have reached out to Grok, asking them why it is responding to these lewd requests. The AI model seems to have resorted to auto-generated replies, asking them to contact the support team for further assistance. Even the chief of the AI platform is yet to respond to the allegations or even assure users about fixing the issues with Grok AI. 

There is no denying that Musk has changed the dynamics of X as a platform, which goes way beyond what Twitter ever was. Grok AI is competing with ChatGPT and Gemini in the AI arena but mishaps like these make it hard for people to trust the technology when there is no control on how it works and what it can do without fearing the consequences of such actions.
