iOS 26.2 update has rolled out for iPhone users and Apple seems to have blocked the older versions for many users.
Apple is making everyone install the iOS 26.2 update
Apple has released the iOS 26.2 update for iPhone users but the company even rolled out the iOS 18.7.3 version that is compatible with select models. Having two updates out is not very common for the company, and it did confuse many iPhone users.
However, if you use the iPhone 11 or some of the older models, Apple is blocking them from installing the iOS 18.7.3 version and asking them to directly upgrade to the iOS 26.2 version instead. The details come via a report by Forbes, which claims users are not happy about being forced into making a big upgrade to the iOS version for their device.
iOS 18.7.3 Update Gone, But Why?
Apple is known to offer long iOS support for iPhones, which is why you are able to install the latest iOS 26 version on a 5-year-old iPhone 11 model. Ideally, these users should get the option to install either of these versions but now they are only seeing the iOS 26 update pop up for their device.
Many have talked about the newer iOS versions affecting the performance of their older models, and this decision has prompted those concerns among users once again. More importantly, some might not be keen on trying out the new Liquid Glass interface and other tweaks that have been designed with the latest devices in mind.
Apple will probably feel that running iOS 26 or 26.2 could be the ideal way for these users to protect their device from dangerous security issues, unless you have a device that is no longer eligible to receive the latest iOS versions. And that’s what the report suggests, where iPhone Xs and a few models are still able to update to the iOS 18.7.3 version since that’s the only update available to them.
The iOS 26.3 beta 1 update is already here and Apple is finally looking to make data transfer between iOS and Android devices a lot more official.
