Gemini is powering live translation on any headphone
Google is offering real-time translation via the Translate app powered by Gemini for all headphones. Yes, the Pixel-exclusive feature is being extended to all devices and platforms that support the AI chatbot and can benefit from its ability to translate speech on the go.
The full roll out is available through the Translate app in select languages for users in the US and India but you can make use of it from the web version and Google Search as well. And the other big change is that any headphone that can double up as a voice assistant can use Gemini and allow you to understand other languages seamlessly.
Gemini Brings Real-Time Translation For All Headphones
Making Gemini translate on any headphone is a useful update and does not force people to spend on a Pixel earbuds just to get this feature anymore. Google is supporting Gemini across products and platforms and the new beta phase coming this month is available in up to 70 languages and the company assures that it works with any pair of headphones.
The translation works not only when someone is speaking in front of you but also while you are watching a TV show or a movie in another language and using the earbuds to translate them into your language. Having Gemini power the feature should make it a lot more contextual and the tone should also be in line with the nature of the content.
How It Works
- Go to the Translate app on your phone
- Pair your headphones
- Tap on live translate from the bottom of the screen
- You can manually select the language to translate to and from
- Translate will show you the text version of the language translated
This is a beta feature so it might have some bugs or inaccuracies like other AI tools. Google is working to make it better and iPhone users will be getting sometime in 2026 along with more countries.
AirPods have got the live translation support with iOS 26 update on the AirPods Pro 3 and the previous models. Google offering Gemini to these hearables gives more people the chance to use these features.
