iOS 26.2 update is widely expected in the next few weeks and Apple is going to make it clear that all users will have to upgrade.
iOS 26.2 betas suggest the full release could happen soon
Apple is likely to offer the iOS 26.2 update for iPhone users before the end of 2025 and the company is making some important changes that forces almost everyone to get the new version. Apple usually allows people to keep using the older iOS version for a longer time but the threshold is limited and that’s what iPhone users are now going to see from the brand with respect to the latest iOS 26 update as well.
That’s what Apple plans to do with the iOS 26.2 update which will be labeled from an ‘optional update’ to a recommended version that everyone should install when it pops up for their device.
iOS 26.2 Update Not Optional: What It Means
Apple is making sure that people still using the iOS 18 version on their iPhones quickly move to the latest version. And the company will ensure that happens by stopping the important security updates for the older version, which forces and convinces these users to make the all important upgrade for their own safety. Can we call it a mandatory requirement, not really but it is pretty close to being one and will eventually become in the next few months.
Apple is quite generous with support for its older devices which is why we even saw the iOS 18.7 update rolled out for older devices to protect them from critical security issues. But even for a company as big as Apple it is not possible to continue working on multiple iOS versions when the latest one offers the best level of security and hardware support.
If you are using the iPhone 11 or higher models and still running them on the iOS 18 versions, we highly recommend the users to upgrade to iOS 26 at the earliest.
The people using the iPhone 15 Pro or later models will be the only ones getting the Apple AI features from the company, while other hardware support is generally limited to the latest devices which is the norm amongst all the brands.
