Virat Kohli returns to the Vijay Hazare Trophy, sparking fan excitement amidst venue entry concerns after the M Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede.
Virat Kohli is all set to play Vijay Hazare Trophy
Ace India batter Virat Kohli is all set to make his return to the Vijay Hazare Trophy, but the big question looms around, with fans wondering if they will even be allowed into the venue premises to have a glimpse at the star cricketer, six months after a stampede took place outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Kohli, now focusing on ODIs, is engaged in the South Africa series. He will return to the Vijay Hazare Trophy for the first time since his appearance against Services back in February 2010.
Kohli hammered his 52nd ODI century in the series opener at Ranchi and backed it up with his 53rd in Raipur, proving that he is as sharp as ever despite being a one-format cricketer.
“He has confirmed his availability to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. How many games he will feature in is not clear yet. Obviously, his being around will be a massive boost to the Delhi dressing room,” DDCA president Rohan Jaitley said while speaking to PTI.
India’s wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant could feature in the Vijay Hazare Trophy league games as well, adding even more star power to the tournament.
“The matches are as per schedule at the two KSCA facilities. We have been hosting BCCI domestic matches since the start of the season without any hindrance. We will call for a managing committee meeting soon and discuss it,” KSCA managing committee member MS Vinay said while speaking to The Times of India.
“Allowing spectators at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium is a decision that will be taken in consultation with the police department and other authorities. We cannot say just yet that the matches will be held behind closed doors,” Vinay added.
Even the Alur facility, despite being on the outskirts of Bengaluru, has witnessed its own crowd chaos. Eight years ago, when MS Dhoni played for Jharkhand in the same tournament, the venue had no spectator galleries, prompting fans to line up along the compound wall for a glimpse.
