Google has more to share and show about its XR platform for glasses

Google has one last event lined up for 2025 and we could see the company talk more about its Android XR platform that caters to smart display devices. We’ve seen the Android 16 unveiled at The Android Show earlier this year and now the same platform could become the source for more details about the smart glasses version of Android.

The company did tease its focus on the smart segment during the Google I/O 2025 and now we could see actual products with newer use cases and how Gemini is likely to be at the forefront of its purpose.

Android XR At The Android Show: What We Could See

The Android XR teaser from the company has two bots wearing the smart glasses and the headset which suggests we could see both the categories showcased during the event which is scheduled for Monday, December 8 at 11:30 PM IST for those watching in India. The event is also being livestreamed via the Android Developer YouTube channel where you can get all the updates.

So what can we expect Google to showcase or talk about at this Android XR event? The special page for the event suggests the company will have more to share about its ongoing smart glasses project which will be looking to rival the Meta Ray Ban lineup in the market. Samsung has already announced its XR headset on the platform but we could see more products in the pipeline and teased at the event.

The use of Gemini seems unavoidable these days and the AI integration will be vital for the success of the smart glasses that Google is going to make with its partners like Gentle Monster, Warby Parker and even Samsung.

The smart glasses market has a lot of potential to become bigger and Meta has shown that glasses with displays are ready to be unleashed, something that Google did much before anyone else with the Google Glass more than a decade ago. Having AI and these glasses could be the ideal pairing that gets the category moving and becoming mainstream in the next few years.
