OpenAI has been running the AI show with ChatGPT for a while but Google’s advancement with the Gemini 3 AI model has the company on alert. In fact, Sam Altman, CEO at OpenAI has reportedly declared “code red” to get ChatGPT improved at breakneck speed to keep it ahead of the rivals.

Altman, quoted in a report by The Information, is worried about Google’s pace of AI evolution and is seeking a better workflow at his company to offer better day-to-day experience with ChatGPT and make it more faster and reliable.

OpenAI Gets Working

The company is putting all its eggs in the ChatGPT basket and the AI chatbot is likely to see its development get fast-tracked as Gemini 3 shows where the market stands. It is fascinating to see OpenAI get on a war footing, because it wasn’t long ago when Google had done something similar to catch up with the ChatGPT maker and Sundar Pichai sounded out everyone about their mission to get Gemini AI moving fast and improving quickly.

It does seem like Altman and Co. are worried about its rivals, not only because of how quickly Gemini has evolved but also shows the amount of work that ChatGPT has gone through and still needs to stay in the lead for the near future. ChatGPT is claimed to be the most popular AI assistant with around 70 percent of the usage linked to the OpenAI chatbot, but things can change quickly in the dynamic market.

Ads Delayed

The report states the internal memo is also looking to delay the prospects of bringing ads to ChatGPT. We have come across references of ads in ChatGPT through different sources but it makes sense to pause those plans to focus on the hero product.

The company also has plans to make an AI hardware device that could face further pressure from Apple’s long overdue AI launch which is highly tipped for next year with the Siri AI avatar.
