Kohli scored 102 runs from 93 balls in the 2nd ODI, but India suffered a humiliating defeat by four wickets after the South Africans chased down the target of 359.

Virat Kohli scored 102 runs from 93 balls for India in the second ODI against South Africa on Wednesday (December 3), but despite his super show with the bat, India suffered a humiliating defeat in Raipur. The four-wicket defeat against the Temba Bavuma-led side at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium is the first international match in 2462 days that India have lost in which Kohli scored a century. The last international fixture in which Kohli crossed the 100-run mark and India suffered a defeat was played on March 8, 2019 in Ranchi against Australia, which interestingly was also MS Dhoni’s last international match in India. In that fixture, Kohli had scored 123 runs from 95 balls, but India could only manage to score 281 runs in reply to the 315-run target.
The century against South Africa in Raipur was Kohli’s 84th hundred in international cricket, and India have now lost 14 matches in which the former India captain has crossed the 100-run mark.

India have suffered defeat in 8 out of 53 ODIs in which Kohli has slammed a century, and the other seven centuries that ended in defeat for India were in Test cricket.
The only Test in which Kohli scored centuries in both innings but India still suffered defeat was played against Australia in Adelaide from December 9 to 13 in 2014. Despite India’s defeat in that fixture, it will remain a special one for Kohli because that was his first match as captain of India’s Test team.
Legendary Sachin Tendulkar scored 100 centuries for India in international cricket in 664 matches played from 1989 to 2013, but his 25 centuries came in the matches that India lost.
