Canada’s Gildan completes acquisition of HanesBrands

Gildan Activewear Inc has completed the previously announced acquisition of HanesBrands Inc, creating what the company describes as a global leader in basic apparel spanning activewear and innerwear categories.

“Today marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter. By welcoming HanesBrands into the Gildan family, we are doubling our scale, combining iconic brands with our world-class, low-cost, vertically integrated platform, and unlocking a powerful engine for innovation and growth,” said Glenn J Chamandy, president and chief executive officer of Gildan.

Gildan Activewear has completed its previously announced acquisition of HanesBrands, creating a global leader in basic apparel across activewear and innerwear.
Chief executive Glenn J Chamandy said the deal doubles Gildan’s scale and will drive at least $200 million in run-rate cost synergies.
The combined group will review processes and supplier agreements in the coming weeks.

Chamandy added that the combined strengths of both businesses across product categories, channels and geographies will enable the group to better serve customers and deliver sustainable, long-term value for shareholders. Gildan is targeting at least $200 million in run-rate cost synergies from the integration, as previously outlined on August 13, 2025.

Following completion, the enlarged company said it will evaluate current processes and agreements and identify opportunities to improve operations across the organisation. In a communication to partners, Ricardo Perez, vice president global procurement and sourcing, HanesBrands, said meetings will be scheduled with suppliers to review existing arrangements and determine the best way forward.

For the time being, suppliers have been told that their primary contacts and current processes will remain unchanged.
