Gautam Gambhir is set to continue as India’s head coach despite suffering two whitewashes in the home Test series. The former Indian opener is facing a lot of flak for his coaching methods after India suffered a humiliating 0-2 defeat in a two-match Test series against South Africa. But according to a report in Dainik Jagran, Gambhir, who succeeded Rahul Dravid as India’s head coach last year in July, is set to continue till 2027, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is not thinking about removing him.

Many former greats and experts of the game, along with fans, have called for Gambhir’s removal as India’s head coach, at least in the five-day format of the game, but the BCCI is unlikely to take any action against him.

It has also been reported that the BCCI is, however, not happy with the senior men’s selection committee, which is headed by former India pacer Ajit Agarkar. As per the available information, BCCI is not happy with selectors’ dependency on all-rounders. They feel a lot of dependency on selectors is not beneficial.

In the recently concluded two-match Test series against South Africa, India played three spin-bowling all-rounders (Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, and Axar Patel) in the first match at Eden Gardens and two spin-bowling all-rounders (Jadeja and Sundar) and one medium-pace bowling all-rounder (Nitish Kumar Reddy) in the second Test. In both the matches the trio failed to make a significant contribution with the bat.

Many former greats in the past few days have also questioned Indian team management’s overdependence on the all-rounders.

It was reported by the Times of India on Saturday that after the conclusion of the ODI series between India and South Africa, which will start on Sunday (November 30) in Ranchi, selectors and team management will meet to firm up the plan for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s future.

But according to Dainik Jagran, there will be no review meeting before the start of the T20I series, and the publication has also stated that the BCCI is yet to speak with Rohit and Kohli about their future in international cricket.
