World No. 1 T20I batter Abhishek Sharma is playing for Punjab in the 2025 edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, and on Sunday, November 30, during his team’s third Elite Group C match against Bengal at Gymkhana Ground in Hyderabad, the 25-year-old left-handed batter from Amritsar, who is also leading the Punjab team, entered his name in the history books by registering the second-highest individual score in the history of T20 cricket by an Indian batter.
Abhishek opened the innings for Punjab and scored 148 runs from 52 balls. During his stay at the crease, he hammered 8 fours and 16 sixes.
Only one Indian batter—Tilak Varma—has scored more runs in a T20 match than him. During the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match between Hyderabad and Meghalaya in Saurashtra on November 23, the left-handed batter scored 151 runs from 67 balls. In that fixture, Tilak hammered 14 fours and 10 sixes.
