South Africa’s Test captain Temba Bavuma took to X and Instagram on Thursday (November 27) to share a picture of South African players posing for a photo with the winner’s trophy after defeating India in both the Tests of the two-match series. South Africa won the series opener under Bavuma’s leadership by 30 runs inside three days at Eden Gardens in Kolkata and then crushed the Rishabh Pant-led side by 408 runs in the second red-ball match played at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati from November 22 to 26. The defeat by 408 runs in Guwahati is India’s biggest loss in Tests by run margin.
A day after South Africa ended their 25-year-long wait for a Test series win in India, Bavuma shared the picture and captioned the post, “A special one.”
Here’s a look:
Bavuma remained unbeaten on 55 in the second innings of the series opener. He was the only batter in the Kolkata Test to cross the 50-run mark. In Guwahati, Bavuma scored 41 runs from 92 balls as a No. 4 batter in the first innings and got out for 3 runs from 11 balls in the second.
Super show by Simon Harmer
In the two-match Test series between India and South Africa, 36-year-old spinner Simon Harmer impressed with his bowling. In four innings, he accounted for the dismissal of 17 batters. In the series opener, he picked up four wickets each in both innings to win the Player Of The Match award, and in the second Test, he dismissed a total of nine (3 in the 1st innings and 6 in the 2nd innings) Indian batters. Harmer, who made his Test debut in 2015 and has more than 1000 wickets to his name in first-class cricket, won the Player Of The Series award for his role in helping South Africa whitewash India.
The total of 17 wickets in the 2025 edition of the India-South Africa Test series also helped Harmer break Dale Steyn’s record of most Test wickets for South Africa in India. Steyn played six Tests in India from 2008 to 2015 and dismissed 26 batters, whereas Harmer has 27 batters to his credit in four red-ball matches played in India.
