Google Meet users across India were hit with a sudden disruption today, leaving thousands unable to join their scheduled meetings.

The problem affected users nationwide right in the middle of working hours and the issue was especially severe on the web version of Google Meet.

People received a common message, “502, that’s an error.” The outage began around late morning and only got worse.

Reports show that the outage started around 11:30 AM IST, a time when offices, schools and remote teams depend heavily on the platform. This led to major delays and cancelled calls across the country.

By early afternoon, the issues had not been resolved. Even at 1:20 PM IST, users continued reporting errors, confirming that the outage lasted more than two hours.

Notably, people using the Google Meet mobile app faced fewer problems. Desktop and laptop users bore the brunt of the outage.

Some users found a partial workaround that allowed them to join meetings through Chrome’s incognito mode but it was far from a reliable fix.

Google traced the problem to a recent change in its content edge cache which helps deliver content quickly. The update caused unexpected disruptions across India.

Engineers rolled back the change to restore stability. Despite the move, the service remained far from fully stable and issues persist.

As of the latest development, Google Meet is only partially restored. Many users can access their meetings but others are still dealing with slow loading and interruptions.

Google has not officially confirmed a full restoration yet, leaving users unsure about when the platform will return to normal.

People who urgently need to join or host meetings can switch to alternatives such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Cisco Webex, Skype or Jitsi Meet.

As the day wraps up, the outage serves as a reminder of how dependent work and communication have become on uninterrupted digital platforms. Until Google Meet is fully fixed, users may need to stay ready with backup apps.
