Cheteshwar Pujara’s brother-in-law, Jeet Rasikbhai Pabari, was found dead at his Rajkot residence in what police have confirmed as a case of suicide, as per the local media channels. Officers from the Malviyanagar police station arrived at the scene soon after being alerted and opened a formal investigation.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, exactly a year after Jeet’s former fiancée lodged a rape complaint against him in 2024. The matching dates have led investigators to consider whether prolonged stress related to the ongoing case may have contributed to his state of mind.

Jeet was taken to a nearby private hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. His body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and officials say the findings, along with further inquiry, will help clarify what led to the tragedy.

According to the FIR filed last year, Jeet’s former fiancée accused him of forcing her into a sexual relationship under the promise of marriage, alleging that the abuse continued after their engagement and that he later broke off the relationship abruptly.

Pujara has been one of India’s most reliable and resilient Test batters of the modern era. He made his Test debut in 2010 and soon became the cornerstone of India’s middle order, especially after the retirement of Rahul Dravid, whose steadiness he often evoked.

His finest achievements came overseas, including the 2018–19 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, where his monumental centuries and marathon stays at the crease were pivotal to India’s historic series win. At home, he produced numerous match-defining knocks on turning tracks and became a specialist in absorbing pressure.

He retired earlier this year, calling time on his India career across formats.

Pujara married Puja Pabari in February 2013 in a traditional ceremony in Rajkot. The couple has been known for their close-knit family life and often shares glimpses of their bond on social media.

Pabari recently published a book, The Diary of a Cricketer’s Wife: A Very Unusual Memoir, about her and Pujara’s life.
