Former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad is set to become the president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) unopposed in the elections scheduled for December 7.
Prasad’s candidacy was approved by the electoral officer, Dr B Basavaraju IAS (Retd), during the nomination screening process.
KN Shanth Kumar, the other contender for the presidential post, had his nomination rejected on technical grounds, while Kalpana Venkatacahar withdrew her candidacy, clearing the way for Prasad’s unopposed election.
“With this development, Venkatesh Prasad B.K. is now poised to be elected unopposed to the post of President,” stated the association.
The nomination scrutiny was overseen by retired High Court judge Justice Subhash B Adi.
Nominations of other former cricketers, including Sujith Somasundar (Vice-president, Secretary) and Avinash Vaidya (Joint Secretary and Managing Committee member), were also approved.
Prasad previously served as vice-president of the association during Anil Kumble’s tenure as president, with Javagal Srinath holding the secretary’s post.
Somasundar recently resigned from his position as head of education at the BCCI Centre of Excellence to contest in the state association elections.
