Jitesh Sharma-led India lost to Bangladesh in the Rising Stars Asia Cup 2025 semifinal after a Super Over collapse, with Vaibhav Suryavanshi left out of the batting lineup.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi was visibly disappointed for not sent to bat in Super Over
Jitesh Sharma-led Team India suffered heartbreak in the semi-final of the Rising Stars Asia Cup 2025, getting knocked out with a defeat against Bangladesh. The boys in blue managed to level the scores in their chase of 194, pushing the game into a Super Over. However, India failed to score a single run there. Luck favoured Bangladesh as their 1-run chase was fueled by a wide ball, bowled by Suyash Sharma.
More than the defeat, the concern was over India’s choice of batters for the decisive six balls. Instead of sending Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who smashed 38 off 15, the management trusted in captain Jitesh Sharma and Ramandeep Singh, followed by Ashutosh Sharma, to do the job. Bangladesh pacer Rippon Mondol struck on back-to-back deliveries, shattering India’s hopes.
After the tragic loss, Jitesh revealed why he was preferred over Suryavanshi.
“They (Vaibhav and Priyansh) are masters of powerplay, but in the death me, Ashu and Raman are who can hit at will. So, it was a team decision and my decision,” Jitesh said at the post-match presentation.
Meanwhile, a few pictures have gone viral on social media ,which show a disappointed Suryavanshi as India’s batting collapsed in the Super Over.
My question is why the manegement didn’t send Vaibhav Suryavanshi in Super Over what are they thinking ?Brainless decision from India A team Management’s. pic.twitter.com/qFcZlB3Hca

India A paid the price for a lacklustre performance with both bat and ball, losing to Bangladesh A in a Super Over in the Rising Stars Asia Cup semifinal on Friday.
Chasing Bangladesh’s challenging 194/6, India matched the total but faltered in the one-over eliminator after a questionable call to send Jitesh Sharma, Ashutosh Sharma and Ramandeep Singh ahead of explosive batters Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Priyansh Arya.
Both Jitesh and Ashutosh fell for ducks to pacer Ripon Mondol, and Bangladesh secured victory despite losing Yasir Ali first ball, courtesy a wide from Suyash Sharma.
Earlier, Suryavanshi (38 off 15) and Arya (44 off 23) gave India a blazing start, powering them past 50 in just over three overs. Jitesh (33) and Nehal Wadhera (32*) kept the chase alive, but India lost momentum in the final overs. Bangladesh’s Meherob Hasan’s late assault — 48 off 18 — proved decisive as 48 runs came off the last two overs.
