Effective waste management in Bengaluru often falters at the first hurdle, source segregation. Despite numerous campaigns urging citizens to separate wet and dry waste, the desired results remain elusive. Now, a Bengaluru-based startup, AIsmart Bin, is introducing an artificial intelligence-powered solution that promises to make accurate waste sorting effortless.

The company’s innovative product, BinPro, was the star attraction at the ongoing Tech Summit 2025 exhibition at the Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre, drawing significant attention from industry leaders and the public.

The Six-Compartment AI Solution

BinPro is an AI-enabled waste-segregating bin featuring six distinct compartments. Users simply present the item, be it plastic, a glass bottle, or organic material, in front of the machine. The embedded AI sensor instantly detects the waste type and automatically opens the correct compartment for disposal.

“Our smart bin segregates waste with up to 95% accuracy,” says Anupam Mahajan, founder of AIsmart Bin, which is based in HSR Layout. “All the user has to do is drop the item inside.”

Targeting Public Spaces

AIsmart Bin has launched BinPro with patent protection and ambitious deployment plans. The company aims to install the high-capacity bins, which range from 400 litres and are priced between Rs 40,000 and Rs 1.5 lakh in high-traffic public areas.

“In the first phase, we are looking to install BinPro at airports, railway stations, and shopping malls,” Mahajan confirmed, noting the potential for significant improvement in waste stream purity in these major venues.

Beyond BinPro, AIsmart Bin is already looking ahead to the next generation of waste management technology.

The company is currently developing what it describes as potentially the world’s first fully automated machine capable of segregating mixed dry waste. This advanced system will integrate state-of-the-art AI imaging, robotics, and conveyor technology to handle complex sorting tasks. The patent application for this groundbreaking technology is already underway.
