WhatsApp is getting one step closer to supporting multiple accounts on the same device, something that millions have been asking for years. The latest WhatsApp beta in development has been spotted with the option to switch between accounts on the same phone, and some beta testers have confirmed its availability albeit at a limited scale so far.

The details from WaBetaInfo have generally been accurate and the news about multi-account support will have people excited for the next few months.

WhatsApp Multi-Account Setup: How It Works

The tipster has shared some insights into the beta feature and how the multiple account setup will work on WhatsApp. The messaging app will get a new Account list option in settings and tapping that will let you add a new account in WhatsApp.

You won’t need to install another app for the second account or set up a new device to use WhatsApp. The account support is likely to have a limit of 2 accounts which is the right way and this includes any existing account you might have on the device.

But the messaging app could also give you the option to use a companion account that you are already using on another device and you link these two with a QR code. This sounds like an intriguing move by WhatsApp which could obviously raise concerns about fake profiles being created but the platform could prevent those issues by having the messages synched to the main account.

Having said that, WhatsApp wants to let you run both the accounts independent from each other, which includes the chat history, and even the alert for the chats. WhatsApp will make sure you know which account has got the message, probably with a label highlighting its origin.

Multiple WhatsApp Accounts On One Device: Why Is It Big?

The beta tests are going in full swing which means WhatsApp might be closer to the full release than we can imagine. Running two accounts on the same device without needing two apps will be a welcome addition, something that is not linked to Meta AI and works to let you have work and personal life on the platform without any clashes.
