Mumbai: Dahisar-Kashimira Metro line expected to be operational by December

After nearly 14 years of waiting, Mira-Bhayandar residents can finally look forward to metro connectivity. Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik announced that the Metro line between Dahisar in Mumbai and Kashimira in neighbouring Thane district is slated to open by December.

The line will provide Mira-Bhayander residents with easier access to other Metro corridors in Mumbai.

After inspecting the line, he said, “Metro services are planned to be started on the Dahisar-Kashimira route by the end of December, and this will be a happy moment for the residents of Mira-Bhayander,” PTI reported.

Sarnaik confirmed that the final clearance depends on regulatory approval and that it requires the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety certificate.

“We expect that by the end of December, the route will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar,” he added. The Dahisar-Kashimira Metro line will be expanded to the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Ground by December 2026.

Sarnaik recalled his early promise of bringing metro connectivity to the area in 2009, adding that the project was finally taking shape.

He said, “In 2009, when I was elected as the representative of this area, I had shown the citizens the dream of a metro. At that time, several established leaders mocked my announcement. But after 14 years of persistent follow-up, that dream is finally taking shape.”

The minister credited the BJP-Shiv Sena coalition government, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Eknath Shinde, for expediting the project. “In the New Year, Mira-Bhayandar residents will have convenient metro connectivity to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, the Mantralaya, and the Vidhan Bhavan in South Mumbai,” he added.

He also expressed optimism about the region’s growing metro network, including the upcoming Vasai-Virar Metro line. “In the coming years, commuters will be able to travel from Vasai–Virar to Andheri and onwards to Colaba via the airport interchange station,” he was quoted as saying by Mid-Day.
