The Indian women’s team is set to play a five-match home T20I series against Sri Lanka in late December 2025. According to a RevSportz report, the games are likely to be held between December 21 and 30, with Vizag hosting two matches and Trivandrum staging the remaining three.

It’ll mark a return to the field for Harmanpreet Kaur’s team for the first time since being crowned the World Champions. They beat South Africa in the final at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai to clinch a first women’s World Cup for India.

This series will replace a rubber against Bangladesh comprising three ODIs and three T20Is scheduled for December — part of the ICC’s Future Tours Programme — which will no longer take place, reportedly, due to ‘prevailing diplomatic tensions between the two governments.’

Tensions between India and Bangladesh have escalated in the wake of political upheaval in Bangladesh. Dhaka’s demand for the return of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, currently in exile in India, has added to the strain, alongside India’s new curbs on Bangladeshi exports, concerns over China’s growing influence in the region, and long-running disputes over river water sharing.

The situation worsened further this week after a Bangladesh tribunal sentenced Hasina to death.

A similar men’s series between India and Bangladesh was to be played in August after the Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy in England, but was indefinitely postponed. News18 CricketNext had reported that the delay was linked to diplomatic strains, though both boards avoided mentioning politics in their joint statement, instead promising “revised dates,” which are still awaited.

“This decision has been reached following discussions between the two Boards, taking into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams,” the release read. “The BCB looks forward to welcoming India in September 2026 for this eagerly anticipated series. Revised dates and fixtures for the tour will be announced in due course,” it added.
