Former England captain Kevin Pietersen expressed all the reasons for his deep love for India, saying that he has always been ‘pro’ on the country because he has never faced any ‘disrespect, negativity, backstabbing, or bad energy’ in the country. He added that he has made ‘lifelong friendships’ in India, and would always want to return the positivity ‘tenfold’, giving the country all his heart forever.

Pietersen enjoyed significant cricketing success in India, winning the 2012-13 Test series, while also representing multiple IPL franchises. Most recently, he was involved as a mentor with the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2025 season, where they found decent success in the first half before tapering off. It’s yet to be confirmed whether he’d return in the role with the team or with any other franchise in IPL 2026.

“People often ask why I seem so ‘pro’ India,” Pitersen said on X. “Answer is simple: in over 20 years and dozens of trips, I have NEVER once faced disrespect, negativity, backstabbing or bad energy there. Not once! Only love, kindness, loyalty, warmth and respect — every single time.”

Pietersen has also spent several months in the country as a broadcaster and is often seen defending the men’s team on social media, or even interacting with the country’s politicians and eminent personalities.

“I’ve made lifelong friendships there that I treasure. Friends who became family. Brothers for life. I know respect has to be earned — and I like to think I earned mine by producing the goods on the cricket field year after year, giving my everything! Whether it was against India or for an IPL team. When a country and its people give you nothing but pure positive energy your entire adult life, that love gets returned tenfold. India gave me its heart first. So India will always have mine.
