The Karnataka government has launched its affordable AI-ready PC called KEO which it claims to have developed locally with the help of the electronics of the IT department in the state.

The device is going to be targeted at students and affordable households who don’t have access to a PC and offer them a computing system that can cater to on-device AI processing and other tasks. KEO is short for Knowledge-driven, Economical and Open-source and the Karnataka government sees this as a low-cost access to AI and a computing system for many. 

KEO AI-Ready PC: Price And Features 

The new KEO AI-ready PC is priced at Rs 18,999 in the region. The state government tech division has developed the KEO AI PC running on Linux operating system which is open source and you have the RISC-V chipset powering the device. For connectivity, the KEO PC supports Wi-Fi, 4G, ethernet for wired internet setup, USB A port and the USB C port as well. The entity will be pre-installing a wide range of tools for learning, coding and other aspects of computing. The AI side of the PC is handled by an AI core that processes the data on-device and runs without needing to send data over the internet. 

The device also has an AI assistant called BUDDH that has been developed on the DSERT syllabus in Karnataka that can aid the needs of students who live in regions with connectivity challenges. 

The government intends to have KEO available across schools, small businesses, government offices and even households over the next few months. The KEO AI-ready PC will be unveiled at the Bengaluru Tech Summit this week.
