Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin found himself in yet another tongue-in-cheek moment when he revealed that Shardul Thakur has been traded to the Mumbai Indians by the Lucknow Super Giants, hours before a few reports claimed the same.
Amidst ongoing rumours of a potential Sanju Samson–Chennai Super Kings trade, Ashwin made a brilliant revelation, confirming that Thakur has been traded to the Mumbai Indians.
Speaking on his YouTube channel Ash ki Baat, Ashwin added a new twist to the pre-auction buzz, discussing CSK’s exploration of a trade involving Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran in exchange for Samson from the Rajasthan Royals.
“I don’t see any releases happening from MI. Will they try to secure a replacement for Deepak Chahar, who is a bit injury-prone? They have secured Shardul Thakur on a trade from LSG. That is already done,” Ashwin said.
The video of the reveal has now gone viral on social media. Watch the video here:

The video has since been removed from Ashwin’s channel, but it is being shared on social media.
Notably, Ashwin’s reveal came hours before reports came in suggesting the same, adding that Arjun Tendulkar might move to Lucknow in a swap deal, or on a plain cash deal.
As per a report in Cricbuzz, both Thakur and Tendulkar could be on the move, though their transfers might be treated as independent, all-cash deals.
Thakur, who led the Mumbai team in domestic cricket, was signed by the Lucknow Super Giants for his base price of Rs 2 crore ahead of last season after going unsold at the 2025 IPL mega auction in Jeddah.
Thakur played 10 games for the Lucknow Super Giants, contributing modestly with the bat (18 runs) but impressing with the ball, taking 13 wickets.
