The Mumbai Cricket Association has said that there has still been no communication from Rohit Sharma about his participation in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy, according to a report in PTI. Earlier in the day, a report claimed the opposite, saying that Rohit had confirmed his availability for the tournament.
The Vijay Hazare Trophy is scheduled to take place across Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Jaipur and Bengaluru from December 25 to January 18, with the knockout games all set to be held at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
A senior Mumbai Cricket Association official confirmed to PTI that they haven’t received any communication from Rohit.
“There has been no communication as far as I am aware,” the official told PTI.
Rohit had recently scored 121* in a match-winning effort against Australia after making 73 in the second match of the three-game series.
Although India lost the series 1–2, Rohit was named Player of the Series. He has been training at the Mumbai Cricket Association’s Bandra Kurla Complex, where opener Yashasvi Jaiswal joined him before heading to Kolkata to join the India team for the first Test against South Africa.
Rohit and Virat Kohli have both retired from Tests and T20Is but are expected to feature in India’s ODI team for the three-match series against South Africa, beginning Sunday, November 30, in Ranchi.
The second and third ODIs of the series will be played at Raipur and Visakhapatnam on December 3 and 6, respectively.
An earlier report suggested that Rohit had confirmed his participation in Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare campaign, which starts on December 24. The tournament falls in the only domestic one-day window between India’s home ODI series against South Africa (December 3–9) and New Zealand (starting January 11).
However, Kohli’s availability remains uncertain, with the report revealing that the ace batter, who resides in London, hasn’t yet informed the Delhi & District Cricket Association of his plans.
