Jemimah’s hilarious remark leaves WBBL broadcaster in splits

Days after handing Australia a heartbreaking defeat, Jemimah Rodrigues has arrived Down Under to participate in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). And now that she has joined the Brisbane Heat camp, she quipped, saying she had doubts over her arrival in Australia, especially after the knock she played against Alyssa Healy & Co in the ICC Women’s World Cup semi-final.

Jemimah Rodrigues produced a brilliant match-winning knock batting at No. 3, anchoring India’s record chase of 339 runs. The right-hander combined composure with class, stitching a crucial partnership with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur to script one of the most memorable wins in the history of Indian women’s cricket. Just a couple of days later, she became a part of history as India defeated South Africa in the final to lift the Women’s World Cup for the first time.

As Jemimah played the first WBBL game on Sunday, her humour on air had the broadcaster in splits.

“I was not sure if Australia would allow me to cross the border after the semi-finals,” Jemimah quipped while speaking to 7 Cricket.

“But honestly, everyone has been so warm and welcoming, and everyone is so happy in general for the growth of women’s cricket. We know that it’s going to change the game massively, not just in India but all over the world,” she added.

Rodrigues hasn’t had the smoothest start to her Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) campaign, as managed just 6 runs off 9 balls against the Melbourne Renegades. Though she featured in a 38-run stand with South African all-rounder Nadine de Klerk for the second wicket, she couldn’t leave an impact returning to Australia.

De Klerk was next to depart as Alice Capsey struck again for her second wicket of the day. Chinelle Henry added some spark with a quick 29 off 22 balls, but wickets continued to fall in clusters. Renegades skipper Georgia Wareham spun a web around the Heat batters, claiming three wickets for just 12 runs in her four overs.

Tess Flintoff also bagged three as the Heat collapsed from 90 for three to 120 for nine within 5.2 overs. Georgia Redmayne chipped in with 16, while Capsey finished with three wickets as the Heat were bowled out for 133 before rain intervened.
