Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the most capped player in Indian Premier League history. Despite announcing his retirement from international cricket on August 15, 2020, Dhoni continues to play in the world’s richest franchise cricket league, and he is all set to play in the IPL next year as well. According to Dhoni’s IPL team Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanath, the former India captain is not going to retire and will play in the 2026 edition of the 10-team tournament.

Viswanath made the big reveal in a recent video shared by Provoke Lifestyle on YouTube. Kasi was asked a couple of young boys about Dhoni’s retirement, to which he replied by saying that the 44-year-old is not retiring.

“No, he is not going to retire,” Kasi said in the first video, and “No, he is not retiring for this (2026) IPL” in the second.

When asked, “When will Dhoni retire?” Kasi said, “I will ask him and get back to you.”

He was also asked if CSK will win the IPL title next year, to which he said, “We are ready, but we don’t know whether we will be able to win. But we will try our best.”

In the 2025 edition of the IPL, CSK could only manage to win four out of 14 league matches and, as a result, finished at the bottom of the points table for the first time in 18 seasons.

Ahead of the IPL 2026 season, CSK are expected to make multiple changes to their squad. Ravichandran Ashwin, who was signed for more than Rs 9 crore by the Chennai-based franchise last year in the mega auction, has already retired from the IPL, and they are likely to part with the likes of Devon Conway, Deepak Hooda and Vijay Shankar as well.

When asked, “Which new player are you (CSK) going to get in your team?” Kasi said, “That we can know only when the auction register comes out. That will be known by the first week of December.”
