Apple and Google are going for a big deal that will cost the former over a billion every year but we could see Siri finally launch.
Google’s Gemini could be the link between Apple’s Siri launch
Apple’s AI struggles are going to cost the company a big price and it could even rely on its rival to power the next version of Siri and its whole AI architecture. The company is reportedly going to have a deal with Google which costs them $1 billion every year but gives them access to a 1.2 trillion parameter AI model from Google that will be the backbone of the new Siri assistant which Apple plans to launch next year.
The report from Bloomberg claims both the tech giants are close to finalising the deal for this special AI arrangement which gives Apple a little more time to build its in-house AI systems.
Smart Move
Some might say that Apple going to Google for help with the AI model sounds desperate but the company has enough liquid in its bank to make a deal like this work. If the reported $1 billion a year costing is true, that would be a small change for a company that is valued in trillions. And having a full-fledged Siri running on a device with its private compute security in place, could be worth billions if it can make them work across its products.
In the meantime, Apple and its AI engineers can fully invest their time and efforts on developing high-scale AI models that can easily match or better what its rivals have to offer as of today.
Last Chance For Siri?
Siri has been lagging behind Google Assistant (now Gemini), Alexa and other versions, using Google’s established AI network and dataset will surely allow Apple to launch a Siri that had it showcased during the iPhone 16 launch event last year.
As for the new reported deal between these companies, we can expect more updates from either Google at the I/O 2026 or probably a little earlier if Apple plans to have Siri unleashed with the iOS 26.4 update sometime around March next year.
Siri is going to be vital not only for the future of iPhone and Apple AI but also its smart home ambitions which includes a new range of devices that will be rolling out in the next few years.
