Apple is planning for one its biggest changes in the PC segment by launching a cheap MacBook variant next year. We have been hearing about this model for a while with some hints about its features and possible price tag but a new Bloomberg report gives more clarity on what the product might offer and why Apple is planning for this device next year.
The company has made a big change with its product strategy recently, which has also given us the iPhone 16e model this year. The MacBook plays in a different battleground where you have Microsoft and Google having a bigger say because of their affordability.
Cheap MacBook Launching Soon: What To Expect
The new report talks about the focus of Apple with the affordable MacBook and what buyers can expect from the product. The device is close to production and is likely to use the display from iPad Air which is an LCD panel, and you could see it powered by iPhone A-series chip (could be A18 or A19).
The screen size is expected to be smaller than 13-inch which suggests Apple could bring back the 12-inch form factor to the market. The design and build quality could have some trade offs but we expect an iPhone 16e-like product rather than something more cheaper which will never work out for the company.
The obvious rivals for this MacBook version will be the Windows 11 PCs and the Chromebooks, both of which are placed in the similar range.
The Apple MacBook launch price is an intriguing subject and the report suggests it will lower than $1000 but we hope to see it launch around $700-$800 if it really wants to grab a big chunk of the PC market.
The end of Windows 10 support in October means a lot of people will be looking to upgrade or, if given the choice, get a Mac, something that is still as aspirational as owning an iPhone, especially in markets like India. The launch is expected in early 2026 so a March timeline along with the M5 MacBook Air cannot be ruled out.
