Popular social media platform Reddit suffered a major global outage on Tuesday, leaving thousands of users across countries, including the United States and India, unable to log in or access content on its app and website.
According to data from Downdetector, a platform that tracks online service disruptions, over 20,000 users in the US and more than 500 in India reported problems with Reddit at the peak of the outage on Tuesday evening.
Acknowledging the issue, Reddit said it had identified the cause and was working on a fix.
“The issue has been identified and a fix is being implemented. We are continuing to monitor for any further issues,” the company stated on its status page.
A few hours later, the platform confirmed that services had been fully restored.
The latest glitch comes amid a spate of high-profile tech outages over recent weeks.
Just two weeks ago, a massive failure in Amazon Web Services (AWS) disrupted several major websites and applications, including Reddit.
The AWS disruption, traced to a Domain Name System (DNS) malfunction at its Northern Virginia data center, had temporarily affected nearly one-third of internet services worldwide.
Similarly, Microsoft’s Azure cloud network experienced a significant outage last week, particularly impacting users in the Eastern United States.
Microsoft later attributed that disruption to DNS-related issues as well.
