An old video of a social media influencer, who looks like Rohit Sharma, training Harmanpreet Kaur for a walk with the trophy has gone viral on social media, hours after the latter invented her own style to celebrate India’s maiden women’s ICC title win on Sunday, November 2.

It was a night destined to be remembered, a defining moment not just for Indian cricket but for women’s sport in the nation. At the heart of it stood Harmanpreet and as ICC chairman Jay Shah handed her the gleaming trophy, the stadium erupted in joy.

By taking the winning catch to dismiss Nadine de Klerk, Harmanpreet sealed India’s place in history. Her side had achieved what generations before them had only dreamed of, becoming world champions for the very first time.

Unlike Messi’s long, dramatic march with the trophy, Harmanpreet’s walk was short and simple, yet every bit as emotional. She strode with pride before lifting the trophy high, as chants of “India, India” thundered through the stands.

Harmanpreet’s captaincy through the tournament was marked by intuition and fearlessness, qualities that shone brightest in the final and when she spoke at the post-match presentation, she made sure to keep her focus on the bigger picture.

“This is the start. We wanted to break this barrier. And our next plan is to make this a habit. We were waiting for it, now this moment has come. So many big occasions are coming and we want to keep improving,” Harmanpreet said.

Leadership is often guided by instinct and she displayed shades of Kapil Dev’s legendary intuition from June 25, 1983, when he gave Madan Lal one more over against a rampaging Vivian Richards.
