The internet was left in splits but also didn’t forget to hit out at the Indian team management after star pacer Harshit Rana was sent ahead of allrounder Shivam Dube in the second T20I against Australia, with questions yet again raised over the team’s preferences.
Rana had to step out much earlier than intended, as the batting unit crumbled at the hands of the pacers after being put into bat first.
Rana walked out to bat following Axar Patel’s unfortunate run-out, while Dube was yet to take the field. The latter has been a dependable presence in India’s T20I middle order for quite some time.
However, Dube had to wait for his turn despite India’s desperate need for stability in the middle, with the score at 49/5 in the eighth over. Rana was listed to bat at No. 6 in the official team sheet for both the first and second T20Is of the series.
Rana did not get an opportunity to bat in the rain-affected opener in Canberra but was promoted up the order for the crucial clash at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The internet couldn’t understand the rationale behind the move, considering the situation, conditions and the opposition.
“Incidents no one would have believed to be true if not recorded. Harshit “Bradman” Rana for you,” a user tweeted on Friday afternoon.
“Wow Harshit Rana ahead of Shivam Dube, soon we might see him open the innings. Gambir and Harshit’s never ending love story continues,” another user tweeted.

“So Harshit Rana is better than Shivam Dube in batting 😆 he comes ahead of him at MCG while even a proper batsmen are struggling…GG thu Einstein hain…,” another post read.

Notably, Abhishek Sharma’s partnership of 56 runs with Rana, (35 off 33 balls) promoted to No.7, permitted India to cross 100-run mark. As many as nine batters couldn’t reach double digits.
