Bengaluru: A software engineer’s excitement turned to shock when the premium smartphone he ordered for ₹1.86 lakh turned out to be a piece of tile. The buyer, identified as 43-year-old Premanand, placed the order for a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 via the Amazon app on October 14 and paid the full amount.
On October 19, the package arrived, and when he opened the sealed box (which he recorded on video), he discovered a tile rather than the phone.

He promptly filed a complaint through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and later at the Karnataka Police’s Kumaraswamy Layout station. An FIR has been registered under Section 66(d) of the IT Act (cheating by personation) as well as relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Amazon has reportedly refunded the amount as investigations continue.
Authorities are working to identify the fraud’s origin, according to authorities. The case has gained attention in light of recent accusations of e-commerce delivery fraud, including the arrest of four people by Gurugram police earlier this month for allegedly stealing Amazon packages headed for Bengaluru.
