Zerodha Coin now lets users invest in FDs from Suryoday and Unity Small Finance Banks via Blostem, offering extra interest for seniors.
Zerodha FD
Zerodha’s investing arm Coin now offers fixed deposits (FDs) from select small finance banks through a partnership with Blostem. The feature makes it easy for Zerodha users to park money in bank FDs without leaving the trading ecosystem.
Users can invest a minimum of Rs 1,000 for both Suryoday and Unity Small Finance Banks. They can invest in multiples of Rs 1.
They are required to have valid PAN card, Aadhaar card, Bank account details, and an Aadhaar-linked phone number.
Senior citizens (60+ years) get an additional 0.4% interest rate benefit on Suryoday FDs and 0.5% on Unity FDs.
Step-by-step guide to invest (quick)
- Log in to coin.zerodha.com and go to Fixed Deposits.
- Click Invest and pick an FD (Suryoday or Unity listed).
- Enter amount (min Rs1,000; multiples of Rs1) and tenure; use the FD calculator if needed.
- Click Continue, review details and accept the undertaking.
- You’ll be redirected to Blostem — log in with mobile + OTP.
- Update PAN, complete Aadhaar authentication and verify your bank details.
- Add nominee and set up two-factor auth (email + SMS OTP).
- Complete payment via UPI / netbanking / QR.
- Finish video KYC (VKYC) within 3 working days — FD tenure starts only after VKYC clears.
- Receive confirmation once the FD booking succeeds.
- What investors should watch (important angle)
- VKYC is critical. If not completed within 3 days, the FD is refunded.
- Bank choice matters. Coin currently lists small finance banks — interest rates may be higher but check bank credentials and tenure terms.
- Tax & TDS rules. Interest is taxable; TDS may apply if interest crosses thresholds (senior-citizen limits differ). Tax-saver FDs have a 5-year lock-in and Section 80C limits.
- Premature withdrawal often attracts penalties and may not be allowed for tax-saver FDs.
- Senior/women benefits. Extra interest for seniors and specific women-benefit products may apply automatically based on KYC.
