The initiative aims to make the visa process convenient for Indian citizens by eliminating the need to travel to the Bulgarian Embassy in the New Delhi. The launch follows the signing of an addendum between HE Dr Nikolay Yankov, Ambassador of Bulgaria to India, and Yummi Talwar, Chief Operating Officer, South Asia, at VFS Global.
From November 1, 2025, applicants will be able to submit their long-term visa applications at the centre in New Delhi, while appointments for the other five cities are expected to open from mid-November. A long-stay visa of up to six months and a right to stay of up to 180 days is issued to foreigners who wish to settle for a long term or permanently in the Republic of Bulgaria (under article 15, paragraph 1 of the Foreigners in the Republic of Bulgaria Act).

Dr Yankov described the launch as an important step in strengthening ties between India and Bulgaria. “The introduction of Bulgaria’s long-term visa services across India marks a significant milestone in deepening the people-to-people and business connections between our countries. It simplifies the process for Indian citizens wishing to travel to Bulgaria for study, work or family reasons,” he said.
Applicants will be allowed to choose from a range of optional services, including home collection of documents, premium lounge access, courier return, SMS updates and assistance with filling forms by VFS Global. However, the use of such services will not affect visa processing times or outcomes.

Visa processing services for Bulgaria have been available in India since 2008, and the addition of long-term visa facilities is expected to enhance accessibility for those planning extended stays.
