After a gripping league stage, the stakes only get higher at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 on Wednesday, October 29, as England take on South Africa in an intense first semi-final of the quadrennial event in Guwahati. The in-form English outfit, led by Nat Sciver-Brunt, faces off against Laura Wolvaardt’s Proteas for a place in the World Cup final in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, November 2.

England finished second on the points table before securing their place in the semi-finals stage, having hammered the South Africans in their opening game and showing off their great skill and depth against New Zealand, Sri Lanka, India, and Bangladesh. They survived a scare from Pakistan during a rain-abandoned fixture in Colombo and suffered their only loss of the campaign against the reigning champions, Australia.

The South Africans ended one spot below the 2017 champions after a rather scratchy run during the league stage, where they blew hot and cold throughout. Embarrassing losses at the hands of England and Australia exposed gaps in their skill set, while a thrilling win over India showed the Proteas’ zeal and temperament under pressure. Despite their issues, they dominated Pakistan, Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka to keep their ship afloat and make it to the semis.

Much of their fortunes in the rematch against England will depend on South Africa’s unpredictable batting line-up that collapsed for 69 and 97 all out in their two defeats, but also put in spirited performances against India and New Zealand. England would believe they hold an edge and are strong favourites to qualify for the summit clash.

Guwahati Weather Forecast

The forecast is for a mostly sunny and humid day in Guwahati for the England versus South Africa semi-final of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. Temperatures are expected to range between 24 degrees Celsius and 30 degrees Celsius, with an insignificant wind flowing at just over 5 km/hour and humidity touching close to 70 per cent during the contest.

Expect an uninterrupted contest where the two teams will have a fair chance to showcase their skills and clinch a spot in the tournament final.
