Grokipedia is Elon Musk’s AI-powered alternative to Wikipedia which he claims is already better than the popular platform.
Grokipedia is live but is it better than Wikipedia?
Elon Musk has launched his version of Wikipedia with AI called Grokipedia that comes in version 0.1 via the website this week. He even shared a post on X confirming the availability of Grokipedia which does borrow a lot of its design from Wikipedia but does it in a simpler and a modern look. Musk claims that Grokipedia 0.1 is already better than Wikipedia and he also pointed out that the version 1.0 of Grokipedia will be 10x better.
Grokipedia, as the name suggests has been designed by xAI which has also developed the Grok AI chatbot and other AI products in the market.
Musk had mentioned in a post that Grokipedia will be aiming to be the world’s biggest and most accurate knowledge source, for humans and AI with no limits on how you can use it.
Grokipedia Is Live: What Can You Expect?
You can check out Grokipedia website by going to Grokipedia.com where you will be greeted with a simple looking home page and Grokipedia mentioned adobe the search bar. When you search for a topic, the platform gives you multiple options that you can click and get information for.
Musk says Grokipedia will position itself as a less biased alternative to Wikipedia, which he claims is far too left-leaning for users to trust its information. He has even mentioned that Wikipedia is being used as a propaganda tool by far-left activists.
It is not shocking to see Musk take on Wikipedia and this comes after multiple instances where he criticised the platform and questioned its source of funds being a non-profit entity.
Grokipedia vs Wikipedia: How They Compare?
When you start using Grokipedia you realise that design and interface wise it is just like Wikipedia which is not a bad thing. The font style is definitely more modern than its rival and the UI looks a bit more polished on the Grokipedia.
To be fair, there’s not a lot people want from a platform that provides information so that part is very well covered on the Grok version. You can log in using your X account or even the Google ID.
When you scroll down to the bottom of the page you will see the references for the source but one major thing missing from Grokipedia is the option to contribute to the information and it does feel like Musk is relying on Grok to fact check the content on the platform. This could obviously change with the Grokipedia 1.0 version that will be released soon but for now the editing aspect is unknown.
But the biggest difference you will notice with Grokipedia and Wikipedia comes in how they distribute information. Reports say the Musk-owned platform has a mild tone with subjects that suit its focus while subjects like gender are heavily customised and give a different meaning on both the websites.
In fact, Grokipedia can be seen lauding Musk for his work in the field of AI while Wikipedia gives us a neutral outlook into his past and present ventures.
Musk will have to make sure that Grokipedia doesn’t fall into the same bias trap that he has accused Wikipedia of doing for many years. We are eager to see how the Grokipedia 1.0 release shapes up and whether it brings new elements to the platform.
