IRCTC app, website face glitches amid festive rush; passengers complain on social media

Passengers across India reported widespread disruptions on the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website and app on October 25, as thousands rushed to book train tickets ahead of the Chhath festival.

Several users took to social media to express frustration over technical glitches on the booking portal, claiming they were unable to log in or complete transactions.

According to Down Detector, that monitors online service outages, nearly 180 reports of disruptions on the IRCTC platform were recorded around 10 am.

Others shared similar experiences, with one traveller commenting, “There is definitely some problem with IRCTC app for general public. Either there are some loopholes or some big technical glitch. We couldn’t book our tickets. Sharing snapshots if it helps in resolution.”

CNBC-TV18 too checked the app at 4.30 pm, and it wasn’t functioning.

The surge in ticket demand comes as millions are travelling to their homes for the Chhath festival, one of the most significant celebrations in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Jharkhand. The seasonal rush traditionally puts immense pressure on railway booking systems, often resulting in technical slowdowns or server crashes during peak hours.

As of Saturday afternoon, many users continued to report intermittent access issues, while others said the website had begun functioning again after brief outages.
