Are Banks Open Or Closed Today, October 23? Banks are set to be closed today, October 23, in several states on account of Bhai Bij/Bhaidooj/Chitragupt Jayanti. As per the RBI’s bank holiday list for October 2025, banks will remain closed in Gujarat, Nagaland, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Himachal Pradesh.

Apart from these above mentioned states, banks will open as usual today, October 23.

During bank holidays, customers can continue to access services through net banking, mobile banking, UPI, and ATMs. However, cheque clearing and other over-the-counter services under the Negotiable Instruments Act will not be available.

October 31, 2025 (Friday) – Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s Birthday

Holiday in: Banks will be closed only in Gujarat on the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Timings Of Banks In India

Banking hours may vary in different states, but most banks in India, including State Bank Of India (SBI), Bank of India, and Punjab National Bank, operate between 10 am and 4 pm.

Banks like Axis, ICICI, HDFC, Yes Bank, and Kotak Mahindra Bank function from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm or 3:30 pm, depending on the branch. Bank of Baroda, on the other hand, has slightly extended hours, working between 9:45 am and 4:45 pm or 10 am to 5 pm, and Canara Bank typically operates from 10 am to 3:30 pm.

While banks in some states will remain closed, there may be confusion among investors on the stock market’s opening. According to BSE and NSE, exchanges will remain open on Thursday, October 23, after a two-day holiday on the occasion of Diwali festival – October 21 and October 22.  The trade in equity, equity-based derivatives, commodities, and currency will be occurred today.
