Virat Kohli failed to open his account in the first ODI of the ongoing three-match series between India and Australia on Sunday (October 19), but despite that there will be high expectations from him in the second match between the two teams. In the fixture scheduled to take place at Adelaide Oval on Thursday (October 23), Kohli would like to come up with a big show.

Apart from silencing his critics who raised question marks over his future in international cricket after he got out for an eight-ball duck in Perth, Kohli will have a chance to break Sachin Tendulkar’s world record for most runs in limited overs cricket.

During his 24-year-old international career, Tendulkar played a total of 464 limited overs matches (463 ODIs and one T20I) for India and scored 18,436 runs (18,426 in ODIs and 10 in T20Is).

Kohli, on the other hand, has amassed a total of 18,369 runs in 428 matches. He finished his T20I career with 4188 runs in 125 matches and has 14,181 runs to his credit in 303 ODI matches played so far.

If Kohli scores at least 68 runs in the second India-Australia ODI match on Thursday, then he will go past Tendulkar’s tally and take the No. 1 position.
