Harmanpreet Kaur’s India are all set to take on Sophie Devine’s New Zealand at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy Stadium on Thursday, with a spot in the semifinals of the ongoing Women’s World Cup at stake.

A victory over the White Ferns in Navi Mumbai would see Harmanpreet’s team become the fourth side to bag a Women’s World Cup semifinal spot at the DY Patil Stadium.

If India fall to New Zealand, they will rely on England defeating the White Ferns and must then win their final group game against Bangladesh to reach the semifinals.

New Zealand, needing wins in both remaining games to reach the semifinals, face another match under rain threat, with forecasts predicting showers or thundershowers in Navi Mumbai later in the day.

A thunderstorm or two is predicted in the evening, with 70% humidity and a 90% chance of rain.

If the game is washed out, India would hold the advantage for the fourth semifinal spot thanks to more victories and a superior net run rate.

After three successive defeats to this World Cup’s semifinalists, Australia, South Africa and England, India have buckled under pressure, despite often being in complete control.

While Australia and South Africa tested India’s bowling depth with brilliant chases, the biggest shock came in Indore, which captain Harmanpreet called a ‘heartbreak’, as her side couldn’t manage just 56 runs from 54 deliveries with seven wickets in hand on a perfect track.
