Siri AI upgrade is widely expected but Apple could be having some concerns
The iOS 26.4 update is not expected until March 2026 but Apple has to put all its eggs in that big basket and that’s due to the Siri AI upgrade. The company is heavily tipped to bring the new Siri avatar with the iOS 26.4 version in Spring 2026 but a new report has cited internal concerns around its development and whether Siri will ever be able to match the abilities and feature set of ChatGPT and Gemini.
The details come via Bloomberg which claims Apple’s software engineers are posing these questions which does not augur well for the Siri 2.0 release next year.
Siri AI Concerns: What’s Happening?
The report only talks about the concerns raised by Apple’s engineers without going into the details. But it does seem like the early stage development of the Siri AI version is not working out as planned. The April 2026 timeline for its release is some time away so the company has enough room to fix and solve these concerns.
The Siri AI version is expected to work like ChatGPT or Gemini Live with the main focus being on-screen awareness, in-app controls and personalised context. The interactions are supposed to seamlessly allow you to access content without reading mails and messages for responses.
However, any more delays with Siri AI could force Apple to partner with Google, Anthropic or even Perplexity to bring their AI models for its devices.
Apple’s AI struggle has been widely documented in recent weeks and most of its delays are being allegedly attributed to its senior executives missing the AI bus when the competition was working on building tools to build on the hype and the demand.
Apple has been lauded for its innovation and its focus on privacy, and some of that remains true even today. But the AI push needs more impetus and an acceptance that the competition is well ahead right now.
The market needs a strong Apple AI renaissance and for that Siri has to be the core model which brings all other devices (smart home) into shape.
