The AWS outage affected Snapchat, Instagram, Canva and other services this week and Musk seems to have the ideal alternative.

AWS Outage took down Signal app for a few hours, Musk says use his X Chat app
Amazon Web Services or AWS took a big chunk of the internet down on Monday which also resulted in apps like Snapchat, Instagram and Signal not working for many. However, Elon Musk-owned X is pitching its own X Chat messaging feature and assures users that any AWS outage will not affect its services.
X, formerly Twitter has become more than just a micro-blogging app these days and Musk is reminding people about its versatility that is also safe from internet outages but secure at the same time. X Chat has been in the testing phase for a while but it seems Musk and Co. are now confident about its usability.
Signal Down? Musk Says Use X Chat For These Reasons
We have usually heard people talk about WhatsApp and Signal as the more secure messaging apps in the market. But it seems Musk has crafted X Chat to work in a similar fashion, and also ensure it does not rely on the AWS network to power its platforms.
X Chat Features
- End-to-end encryption
- Group chats and team collaborations supported
- Not relying on AWS network for operations
- No ads or hidden trackers
- Encryption offered on texts, file transfers and voice/video calls
More importantly, Musk and Co assure that just like WhatsApp and Signal, it will never read your messages or sell them for business reasons.
While these claims are quite good, the X Chat setup is not based on open-source protocols so third-party audits are not possible, which Signal is happy to allow. The other issue could be you need the X app to use the chat feature and it is not a standalone app which many have suggested Musk and his team works on and launches.
All of this advocacy from Musk comes on the back of a major AWS outage that meant big platforms were not accessible for a few hours. Signal seems to be relying on AWS to power its services but is claimed to be safe and all the data is encrypted, even from those over at Amazon.
