For her recent appearance in London, Nita Ambani wore an emerald and diamond necklace that was inspired by the one that belonged to Maharani Sanyogita Devi of Indore.

Nita Ambani stunned at the Pink Ball hosted at the British Museum in London.
At the first-ever Pink Ball at the British Museum in London, Nita Ambani once again proved that luxury, when rooted in heritage, transcends fashion. Co-chaired by her daughter Isha Ambani, the evening was inspired by India’s ancient cultural and artistic legacy, and Mrs. Ambani’s presence embodied that spirit perfectly. Dressed in a blush-pink Kanjivaram saree and adorned with a resplendent emerald-and-diamond sautoir from her personal collection, she created a moment that seamlessly united history, craftsmanship, and modern elegance.
The centrepiece of Nita Ambani’s look was the emerald-and-diamond sautoir. Conceptualised and personally directed by Nita, the necklace was a contemporary reimagining of the legendary emerald sautoir once owned by the Maharani of Indore. Crafted by Kantilal Chhotalal, it featured a majestic 70-carat Colombian emerald, two 40-carat pear-shaped solitaires, a 40-carat round diamond of Nizami provenance, and two cushion-cut anchors, all arranged with Art Deco precision. Each gem, sourced from Nita’s personal collection, carries a sense of time, travel, and taste refined over decades.
Every proportion in the design honours the geometry of classic Art Deco, while the finish reflects her unmistakable sense of modern refinement. The result is a jewel that feels archival yet alive – a lineage of Indian connoisseurship reimagined for the present day.
Complementing the sautoir was a powder pink Kanjivaram saree from Swadesh, woven in fine mulberry silk and pure gold zari by 68-year-old master weaver R. Varadan. With an off-shoulder corset blouse and a silver cutwork pallu crafted by Manish Malhotra, the ensemble fused heritage handloom with couture finesse. Together, the saree and the necklace embodied Nita’s personal philosophy. It was a deep reverence for India’s traditional arts expressed through the language of global luxury.
The story of Nita Ambani’s Pink Ball look is one of continuity, where the legacy of the Maharani of Indore finds a new voice in the modern matriarch of India’s most influential family. Her sautoir may echo the grandeur of a bygone era, but its symbolism is entirely her own: an ode to India’s craftsmanship, a bridge between generations, and a reminder that true luxury is not about excess but about endurance, emotion, and the elegance of legacy made anew.
