Former India opener Navjot Singh Sidhu slammed an X user on Monday, after a post from the account claimed that the former had asked for the removal of head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar if India want to win the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Social media was abuzz with a fake quote attributed to Sidhu, making him the latest celebrity to fall victim to online misinformation.

The fake post surfaced ahead of the India-Australia series, claiming that Sidhu had called for the removal of Agarkar and Gambhir and requested the reinstatement of Rohit Sharma as skipper to bag the 2027 World Cup.

Never said it, don’t spread fake news, never imagined it. Shame on you,” Sidhu replied to the X post on Monday morning.

The Indian team is in a transition phase under Agarkar and Gambhir, with star batter Shubman Gill taking over as the new skipper in both ODIs and Tests.

With the 2027 ODI World Cup just two years away, questions are being raised about the futures of senior cricketers Rohit and Virat Kohli.

They are part of the squad at the moment in Australia. They are incredible players, but this isn’t the forum to harp on individual performances. Two years from now, it’s difficult to predict the situation,” Agarkar recently said.

Who knows, younger players may emerge and claim those spots. Both are great players, and they will not be judged in every match. Once they start playing, we will assess the situation,” Agarkar added.

The Indian team management remains focused on assessing cricketer performances and making selections based on team needs. With emerging talent pushing for spots and senior cricketers still delivering, the future composition of the team remains open.
