India faced England in the 20th league match of the ongoing ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 on Sunday (October 19) in Indore, but suffered another heartbreaking defeat by four runs.
The defeat against England was India’s third loss in four matches played so far in the ongoing eight-team tournament and third on the bounce. They currently sit in fourth spot in the points table with 4 points from four matches.
England secured their place in the semifinals alongside Australia and South Africa. Meanwhile, India, having suffered their third consecutive defeat following losses to South Africa and Australia, now face a do-or-die situation. India’s next match will be against New Zealand in Navi Mumbai on Thursday.

How India can qualify for the semifinals?
Despite going down by four runs against England, India still remain alive in the race to qualify for the semifinals. For India to finish in the top four and advance to the knockouts, they have to make sure that they win at least one out of the remaining two fixtures.
India’s fourth league match of the ongoing ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 is scheduled against Australia in Vizag on October 12. India will face England in Indore on October 19, New Zealand in Navi Mumbai on October 23 and Bangladesh on November 26.

India’s performance so far
India kicked off their ODI World Cup 2025 campaign with a 59-run win over Sri Lanka in the rain-hit match played at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on September 30. In that fixture, Deepti Sharma scored a half-century (53 runs) and then picked up three wickets as well to win the POTM award. India’s second match was against Pakistan in Colombo on October 5, and Harman’s side won that contest by 88 runs. India lost to South Africa, Australia and England in back-to-back games.
