Apple is changing the reward terms for its security bounty program which means many of you can aspire to become a millionaire.
Apple is going to pay millions if you find major issues with its software
Apple is offering a great chance for researchers and security whiz to find major issues with its software and get paid in millions, which can go as high as $5 million. The security bounty program is not a new model and companies like Google have offered incentives to find bugs, report them to the company and get rewarded.
Apple’s own version of this program is getting a major upgrade in November this year and the company is doubling up the reward for people who find critical and dangerous bugs in Safari, iOS and other platforms.
Apple Increases Security Rewards: What You Will Get Now?
The company is offering rewards up to $1 million (up from $250,000) if the researcher can find the issues with just a single click. In cases where the attack has to be triggered by being close to the device, the users can also earn $1 million, while any attack where the device has to be accessed physically gets them a reward of up to $500,000.
The company is also looking to foolproof its sandbox exploits and any researcher able to show loopholes in its system will be offered up to $300,000 from next month onwards. Apple has strengthened its spyware attack in recent months, offering features like lockdown mode that is activated when a zero-day spyware attack is detected on iPhones.
Apple’s security reward program has reportedly garnered a good response in the market, wherein the company has paid over $35 million in rewards to more than 800 researchers who find issues in its software.
Apple’s focus on privacy and data security is well known and now increasing the rewards for people who do the dirty work for the company seems like the right move. This will not only help Apple fight the zero-day critical attacks but also get them ready for future advancements and give people the incentive to join the ranks and get rewarded handsomely, even become a millionaire overnight in some cases.
