YouTube faced a major outage affecting over 321,990 users globally, especially in the United States, Australia, Canada, and the UK. TeamYouTube confirmed the issue is now fixed.

YouTube was down for thousand of users globally on Wednesday evening, according to Downdetector.

DownDetector, a platform that tracks such outages based on users’ reports, showed massive outage with YouTube services, with nearly 321,990 users reporting, as of 7:47 p.m. ET, AFP reported.

Most YouTube service outages were reported across the United States. According to Downdetector, disruptions affected all major cities, with Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Chicago, New York, Washington, and Detroit among the hardest hit. Some other countries who faced the issue include Australia, Canada and the UK, according to Downdetector.

The figures used by Downdetector are derived from user-submitted reports and may not reflect the exact number of affected users.

Although the issue persists and YouTube has yet to provide a specific cause for the outage, TeamYouTube responded on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “If you’re not able to play videos on YouTube right now — we’re on it! Thanks for your patience.”

However, YouTube support is actively replying to frustrated users’ queries on X.

As reports of the outage spread, social media platforms were soon flooded with memes and humorous posts about YouTube going down. Users took to X (formerly Twitter) and other platforms to share their frustration in lighthearted ways, turning the disruption into a trending topic.

One X user posted a GIF of thousands of people on a dangerously speedy elevator heading in the same direction, saying, “YouTube Users going twitter to see if their YT ain’t working as well.”

Meanwhile, YouTube has confirmed that the issue has been resolved. In a post, Team YouTube announced, “This issue has been fixed – you should now be able to play videos on YouTube, YouTube Music, and YouTube TV!”
