Inflation for agricultural labourers and rural labourers stands at 1.07% and 1.26%, respectively, in August 2025, while food inflation stands at -0.55% and -0.28%, respectively.

The All-India Consumer Price Index (CPI) for Agricultural Labourers fell by 0.11 points to 136.23 in September 2025, while the index for Rural Labourers declined by 0.18 points to 136.42 during the month.
Inflation for both agricultural and rural labourers eased in September 2025 to (-) 0.07 per cent and 0.31 per cent, respectively, on account of a sharp decline in food prices, according to the latest data released by the Ministry of Labour & Employment.
“The year-on-year inflation rate for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers stood at -0.07% and 0.31%, respectively, in September 2025. The food inflation in September 2025 stood at -2.35% for AL and -1.81% for RL,” the ministry said in a statement on Saturday, October 18.
Inflation for AL and RL had stood at 1.07% and 1.26%, respectively, in August 2025. Food inflation was -0.55% and -0.28%, respectively, during the previous month.

It added that the All-India Consumer Price Index (CPI) for Agricultural Labourers (AL) fell by 0.11 points to 136.23, while the index for Rural Labourers (RL) declined by 0.18 points to 136.42 during the month under review. These indices are compiled based on data collected from 787 sample villages across 34 States and Union Territories, with the base year set at 2019=100.
The Food Index, a key component of the CPI, also recorded a decrease of 0.47 points for AL and 0.58 points for RL in September 2025.
The decline in both general and food inflation indicates a moderation in price pressures across rural areas, driven largely by a fall in food commodity prices during the month.
CPI Inflation In September 2025
The retail Inflation of India in September 2025 stood at 1.54%, according to data released by the National Statistics Office (NSO). It was the lowest after June 2017. There is a decrease of 53 basis points in headline inflation of September 2025 in comparison to August 2025.
The decrease in headline and food inflation is mainly attributed to favourable base effect and to decline in inflation of Vegetables, Oil and fats, Fruits, Pulses and products, Cereal and products, Egg, Fuel and light etc.
Meanwhile, India’s wholesale inflation rose to 1.84 per cent in September 2024 mainly due to increase in prices of food articles and manufacturing equipment, compared with a four-month low of 1.31 per cent in the previous month of August 2024.
